Restaurant Guest: having breakfast at your groovy cafe was an unexpected treat.
Frommer's Review March, 2009
This well-maintained family-owned and -operated motel is the closest lodging to the national park. Basic motel rooms have either one or two double beds, and one unit has two double beds plus a twin bed in a separate room. Some units have shower-tub combinations, while others have showers only. There is an attractive patio with a fountain where guests sit, chat, and watch the hummingbirds. The attached restaurant/gallery local art and high-quality crafts.

Terry, My husband Herb and I wanted to thank you for being so gracious . We had a great time and you have a great eclectic establishment. Everyone in the club said they had a great time and Chris your server was so nice to us and so willing to go along with our requests.
Guzzi Grappa Motorcycle Group: What another GREAT year! It's because of Terry, Pat, and Mark that this event started. It is because of people like you, that it succeeds. It was an awesome group of people to be a part of this past weekend. We couldn't do it without Terry and his support and trust.
We're back home in Wyoming--safe, snowy, and sound. Thank you once again for your accommodations this week. We enjoyed our visit to the park, and it was a treat to eat delicious meals and chat with fellow travelers. We'll remember the LectroLux Cafe!
I admire your imagination to make something special out of a small business in a beautiful but isolated part of the U.S.
Terry, it was neat to see from your email who you are. I ate lunch at your great little cafe/art gallery/library a few years ago and remember it well. Was tempted to hang out for a number of days, but was enroute to a meeting in San José with too little time. What a great place you have and great food, and I see you're doing great things in that gorgeous part of the world. I'm jealous of you living there…
From a motorcycle group-We like the trust you have in us. We like the welcome feeling we get when we are there. The hospitality and the food are totally unexpected out there in the Boonies. As well as the selection of wines and micro beers. The nearby ride up to the Park is nice. Most of us do a lot of riding to get there, so we don't plan on doing much while we are there. We are there for the camaraderie and fellowship and that means with you as the proprietor as well! It wouldn't be the same if you weren't there! Bert
Person making a reservation: We had to come again and bring our married kids as the restaurant was a great change from anything in the area.
Your Granola was so good I had to buy 2 more bags for the road.
Thanks again for offering up a patch of grass with dinner. The climb up to the lower campground was really rough after a hard day from Ely. Had it been movie night I was soo there. I'm going to miss those hiker biker bars!!
Ted (a local who doesn’t get out much );-))) Best pizza I have ever had!
We had a great trip to your part of the world. Of course the park is glorious. We liked your funky little motel… and we like your restaurant, like an oasis in the desert. Thank you for your warm hospitality…. Sandi
(European) This is the best pizza we have ever had here in the US!
Hello. My husband and I visited your inn and cafe' a couple of years ago and have never forgotten you. We would like your package with dinner and breakfast for each room. (We remember what an outstanding chef you are!!)
I would like to reserve one of the courtyard rooms for the nights of September 15th and 16th. There are two of us and this will be our third visit. We love your establishment.
Baker, NV – While cycling across the country: Terry let us camp in back as long as we ate there. It wasn't a hard sell since the food was fantastic! His granola and brownies are not to be missed.
I just got done processing my film on Sunday. I'll send some photos your way this weekend. Thanks again for the great conversation and accommodations! PAUL
Baker's water was named the grand prize winner for drinking water in a "taste off" by the Nevada Rural Water Association at the Annual Training and Technical Conference. The town's water was judged on clarity, bouquet and taste.
David Toll, Nevada Travel Network, http://www.nevadatravel.net/travelgram/05-11.html: “A year ago, when Bill and Kathy Rountree sold the Silver Jack Motel (now The Silver Jack Inn) in Baker, I wondered if its ineffable charm would survive. New owner Terry Marasco has laid any qualms to rest. He has transformed the former gift shop — originally the town's General Store — into a bright and friendly dining room, serving espresso, French toast and omelets in the morning and an eclectic menu throughout the day: "Like Life, Our Menu Changes Daily". The bar is stocked with the finest American-made wine and beer — yes, he has Ruby Mountain Amber Ale and Heffeweizen”.
Annie Wells, Reporter, Los Angeles Times (July, 2006): “Terry Marasco is one of the 52 people who live in Baker… He bought the Silver Jack in December of 2004 then moved here from San Francisco. “ his Lectrolux gallery and café is not to be missed.”
Rob & Gary: Spending the night at the Silver Jack Inn was the highlight of our Diversity Days weekend. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the food was great. Thank you so much for lending me a pair of your socks for the hike, which was a beautiful way to spend a few hours. Thanks for your hospitality,
Joyce: Dear Terry - Thank you so much for the delightful stay at your inn. We enjoyed the garden, the birds, the doggie, and even the skunk. The food was delightful; unfortunate that we are getting too old to devour great quantities, as we would have loved to sample each item.
Inn guest: “You have the best pizza in Nevada!”
I stayed in your RV Park just over a year ago while we were travelling around the USA . We had an excellent evening meal and another great meal in the morning in your café. I wondered if you would be prepared to send a portion of your home made Granola to the UK as it was the best Granola I have had. If you are prepared to do this let me know how much it will be including postage and packing. Regards Damian P
Bob & Shaleagh: “This is from Bob and Shelagh, two bicyclists who stayed in the Hideaway Cottage during bad weather in Apr - and ate most of our meals at your marvelous place. Just saw your ad in ACA magazine. I have been telling everyone about Baker, and now I have the ad to make it easier. We love your place - it was such a treat, after traveling all through Utah, to find such wonderful food and WINE!!!! |
